Broadband on The Great Park

We have received a message today from the new NGP Project Manager concerning broadband provision. It is good news! We are sure that everyone is very grateful to the enterprising resident who had lead on this project and worked so hard to get it off the ground. Also to Olly Thompson for getting behind it at this stage.

‘The consortium have been working hard alongside OpenReach and the Great Park project lead to ensure that fibre broadband is widely available across the Great Park. We met with OpenReach, MP Catherine McKinnell, and the resident lead back in September 2018 to discuss which cells do not have fibre, and how we can provide the relevant infrastructure to those areas. Together we agreed on the following, which if you have been part of the Facebook Resident Groups you may have already heard. Going forward, updates will be on the Newcastle Great Park website, and any works will be communicated to residents in advance of work commencing. Please see the following updates on progress for the implementation of fibre infrastructure in your Cell:
Cabinet 21 – Cell C (Elmwood Park Area)
We are working closely with OpenReach to secure a final quotation to implement fibre. There have been numerous surveys to date but OpenReach have promised that one final survey will be carried out on the 19th March to ensure they have enough information to provide a price. We would like to have this confirmed by the 29th March which will allow residents to sign up for the Government’s Gigabit Broadband scheme to fund the implementation. As with another cabinet on the estate, Sean Hood will take on the community lead role to gather all of the relevant information and sign ups to get the ball rolling on this as soon as the price is given. We will release our next update on this cabinet once we have the price from OpenReach, or on 29th March, whichever comes first.
Cabinet 23 – Cell F (Brunton Grange and East Moor Village)
This cabinet already has fibre infrastructure, but unfortunately all of the connections are filled. To alleviate this issue, OpenReach are installing an additional cabinet to support 200+ additional fibre connections. This work was due to be completed by the end of March 2019, however due to a number of complications OpenReach have put this on hold temporarily. We hope to have this matter resolved very soon so that we can move forward for the benefit of the wider community.
Cabinet 28 – Cell E (Brunton Green)
The residents covered in this area are in the process of having fibre to the premise infrastructure planned and implemented. The proposal for this project was signed in November 2018, and has a 12-month deadline. By early next week, OpenReach should have final work estimates allocated to the contractors. Work within the local exchange for this project began on 05/03/2019. Sean is working closely with OpenReach to try and expedite the deadline date of November 2019 to ensure that the community has fibre services as soon as possible.

We would like to provide regular updates on this until all of Newcastle Great Park has access to high speed internet. If you would like to get more information on the matter, please do not hesitate to get in touch.’
